"Native Son" got its name because it is made from Florida Rosewood, an invasive species, which was cut down here in Tampa on Davis Island, which by coincidence, is where our 2 daughters were born. I went a bit crazy with the sapwood on this build, incorporating it on every element of the build. The fingerboard was originally made for VG #0012 (Red Head), but when the top came in, I saw how the colors were clashing with each other. My friend and mentor Ben Chafin (of Chafin Custom Guitars and Electra Guitars) had given me a log of the Florida Rosewood a few years ago and I finally made a guitar to match the fingerboard!
