music

I started home recording back in 1993 and decided to use the name "DogTrax" for my music - The name was one that I had already used for a published cartoon series I had in a couple of magazines back in Tucson years ago. When I was in the Navy, I had a parachute jump school instructor who could not pronounce my name (Man - duh - nee - see), so he dubbed me with a nickname that followed me through the years: "Mad Dog", which I even used as a stage name back in my years of doing stand-up comedy.

DogTrax music was first created on a 4-track recorder in a small bedroom of a small apartment back in the days.... I had my old acoustic Yamaha FG160 and a Cortez Les Paul copy for my guitar collection and I used a Pringles can with rice in it for my percussion section. I eventually bought more guitars, drum machines and all to constantly improve my sound.

Some of the recordings that are on the earlier tapes were pretty bad, but I didn't have the equipment I have now. Here are the Tapes & CD's I had put out years ago:

Acousticool/Electricool - released 1993
Side 1:
Acousticool 93
Alone Again
Can't Be Satisfied
Acousticool 79
Blues In E Major Spedup
Unicorns & Wars
Dreamin'
Ballad of the Mad Dog
Side 2:
Intro: Jaime's Dream/Funky Hand
Electricool
Angel
Lost N' Not Found
Electrikill

This was my first "Official" tape I released. Side 1 is all acoustic guitar/multi-tracking & singing and side 2 is all electric guitar music. I remember trying to sell this to co-workers at a company I was working at at the time and didn't get much feedback from them. My Mom seemed to like it tho. (ahahaha)

Another Day In The Paradox - released 1994
Side 1:
By The Pool
Time To Go
Jacob Barley
Stuck in the '60
Moses The Mindbender
Cold-hearted Woman
Side 2:
Oond Schnap Goze Der Mind
Mr. Weasel
Nine Day Hangover
Devil's Dandruff
Surfin' USSR

I started getting back into writing lyrics and singing at this point - most of these songs have me singing on them (This does not mean it's good news)

Losers & Heroes - released 1994
Side 1:
The Loser
Wizard's Room
Welcome Back/
Misery Loves Company
The Dream
Battle Axe
Stone Castle
Down The Road
Side 2:
Hero
Slide On Inn
Where You At?
I Want You Too
Goodbye Cool World

Losers & Heroes was sort of a "thematic" album and I had used a really bad drum machine and borrowed an old Korg synth to get some of the songs together. I was excited about the fact that I was using more instruments for this recording.

Spiderwebs & Raindrops - released 1994
Side 1:
Dogpie
Acoustiboy
Quiet Time
Song For Leo
Daydream
Another Change
Spiderwebs & Raindrops
Side 2:
Lessons With Todd
Down The Line
Welcome Home
Just Friends
Long Gone
So Happy
Hog Punk
5th Corner
Melvin Milktoast

By the tail end of Losers & Heroes, I was wanting to get better on my guitar playing as well as my songwriting, so I started taking lessons with local guitar legend, Todd Grubbs. Some of the songs on here start expressing a new style I started honing in on. MOST of the songs here are instrumental guitar songs. I had also purchased a much cooler drum machine (Boss DR5) that was helping immensely with the sound.

Songs For The Vocally Challenged - released 1996
Side 1:
Move Over, Eugene
So Lonely
Sonoran Sunrise
Christopher's Room
Somewhere
The Note
9 Day Hangover
Surfin USSR
Side 2:
Dream Catcher
Shades Of Rain
Send Me An Angel
It's Alright
Falling
Led Hed
Whammy Guitar, Inc.

In 1996, I had purchases a Tascam MK488 8-track multi-track recorder and started going crazy, sometimes going a bit overboard with guitars, but I was also digging into some unusual sounds, guitar-wise and musically.

Unchained - released 1997
Side 1:
Unchained
Stellar Cellar
Going To Morocco
Sleepwalk
Just Like You
Stone Castle
Duck Polka
Side 2:
Bluefrog Blues
Just For U
Cause We've Ended As Lovers
Foolin' Around
Colder Shoulder
Seashell Shelly
Pine Rock Park

In 1996 I started jamming with a neighbor who was most excellent on guitar - Blake Compton..... we ended up playing at Borders & several coffee shops around the Tampa Bay area. I also released this CD around that time. "Stellar Cellar" was actually a song written and performed by Blake and he plays rhythm on "foolin Around" as well as "Pine Rock Park".

Hand-Me-Downs - released 1999

This CD's information is in our Store - click here to listen to samples or purchase.

With all of the released tapes/cd's mentioned above, it was mainly just me working with drum machines, guitar, bass, synths, pianos. harmonicas and anything else I could get my hands on. In 1999 I actually formed a band named DogTrax - this band was dis-banded (no pun intended) in October of 2005 and we have just released a CD that was recorded over a period of 5 years - that is now in my downloads section titled "Earllusions". Through the past 14 years of making music, I have not been able to release all of my music until now. I am planning on putting the 100's of songs that are archived in the VIP section and the online store, as well as newer songs I am working on.
